Brushes: What Are They and What Are They For?

Brushing is the most common sensory activity I hear on our parent sensory board. But parents often don’t know what brushing is, what they look like and which one to buy.

I tried several different types of brushes until I found just the right one for my Hbomb, who has since outgrown brushing. But I’ve pooled together a list of brushes that may prove useful for you all.

  1. Thank you for the articles linked here. Our son’s OT has given us a brush and shown us the proper techniques and at first blush it seems very odd and a bit out there. Both my husband and I like to see scientific papers and/or research to back these things up.

We have also been given to discussions about the Anat Baniel Method which is a pretty big investment in time and money and is not considered a traditional therapy. I think we will focus more on the brushing and give the Anat Baniel method some more thought.
